2017-03 Pablo Lorenzo-Eiroa's Groundscraper exhibition is currently up at The School of Architecture of The Cooper Union, at the Dean's Wall. This exhibition is part of a fund raising initiative by Dean Nader Tehrani to support the free tuition policy at The Cooper Union. The exhibition of this project is carried out to represent some of the ideas developed at  ARCH 177/482B course lead by Pablo Lorenzo-Eiroa where students develop the means and conditions to represent, draw and build their own projects. From coding, to fabrication, the Groundscraper exhibition project is phased through several means of actualizing the conditions that the project activates: from diagrams that activate the coding implemented to create the informed field reacting to the existing topography of the site; to a digitally fabricated series of model-drawings-inscriptions that activate the spatial qualities and logic of the project. The drawing exhibited progressively becomes a physical model, by expanding dimensionally the topography of the project activating the figuration of the project, tensioning the canvas-frame of the exhibition.

The technology implemented (CNC milling machine) to work out the model-drawings-inscriptions was developed by Pablo Lorenzo Eiroa (from Las Grutas Project for Uruguay) with the assistance of students at The Cooper Union: Gabriel Munnich and Yaoyi Fann and from research carroed on from ARCH 177-482 computer course lead by Prof. Pablo Lorenzo-Eiroa "Machines to Draw and Build".  For more information on these themes: Groundscraper Project East Uruguay; Arch 177-482B; machines to draw and build

Exhibition November 2016. e-Architects' Osaka Competition Submission for the Umeda District in Osaka Japan proposes a double building topology to cross relate ground surface and skyline. Ground and skyline displace and critique each other composing different architecture opportunities. The project develops underground functions such as cultural centers and commercial retail, but the void of the original site is kept almost intact, keeping the city fabric at the street level and developing a green public park. The Osaka Competition was submitted in 2013 after wining a portfolio competition invited by Kengo Kuma and Jusuke Obuchi.

2016 08 REVISTA PLOT 06 Detalles Constructivos. Pablo Lorenzo-Eiroa's article :"Expanding Authorship Between Drawing and Building" published in PLOT 06 Detalles Constructivos, ed. Florencia Medina, August 2016. This article discusses theoretical and experimental issues featuring professional work from Pablo Lorenzo-Eiroa at e-Architects | eiroa Architects and academic research developed at The Cooper Union. The article intends to deconstruct the relative authorship of architects designs when using software programs, interfaces, conventional algorithms and common information processing techniques, this time applied to recursive machines to draw and build, such as recursive CNC machines, 3d printers and Robotic Arms. The articles historically discusses the evolution of these issues in regards to materiality intending to expand dimensions between drawing and building, redefining these disciplinary categories.

2016 08 REVISTA PLOT 06 Detalles Constructivos:  "On the Abstraction of Information and the Physical Tectonic of Materials" interview to Nader Tehrani by Pablo Lorenzo-Eiroa, Aaron Sprecher and Shai Yeshayahi originally published in English in the ACADIA 2010 Conference Proceedings, translated to Spanish by the request of PLOT. This interview discusses interesting problems on the way Nader Tehrani works both using the implicit material forces in the materials he uses to inform his installations, but also works resisting the logic of these materials used by both layering intrinsic and extrinsic information.

Architecture in Formation is the first digital architecture manual that bridges multiple relationships between theory and practice, proposing a vital resource to structure the upcoming second digital revolution. Sixteen essays from practitioners, historians and theorists look at how information processing informs and is informed by architecture. Twenty-nine experimental projects propose radical means to inform the new upcoming digital architecture.

“We grew accustomed to live together with machines, which provide us endless access to information. Our computational companions, now in our pockets, have had also a profound impact on how we foresee future scenarios of transformation and change. Now is the moment that we reconsider critically the emergence of new paradigms and protocols that computation has determined within architecture, and this collection of essays establishes a potent cornerstone of a much needed history of that recent past.”

Fabrizio Gallanti, Associate Director, Canadian Centre for Architecture.

2013 The Cooper Union. End of the Year Show Opening: Monday May 28st of 2013 at 6pm, The Cooper Union, 7 East 7th Street, New York, NY, Foundation Building, Ground Floor Colonnade Gallery Design II Cartopological Space by Pablo Lorenzo-Eiroa (Head Professor and Coordinator), James Lowder (assistant professor) and Katerina Kourkuola (instructor) studio. Design II studio developed a un-house for a divorced couple. The economic crisis and the impossibility of selling leaves the un-house in a state of divided tension in which the two inhabitants must share the house. Each student studied architectural language through the development of a conceptual and formal syntax. As a point of departure a parametric nine square grid vectorial frame-space will be first described, then analyzed and displaced through topological transformations. http://www.cooper.edu/events-and-exhibitions/exhibitions/eoys-2013

2013 Pablo Lorenzo-Eiroa computation research is on display at The Cooper Union, The Colonnade Gallery at the gorund floor level at 7 East 7th Street. According to some scientists we may have surpassed the point of irreparable damage to our planet. At this point, several scientists confirm that ecological balance may only be achieved by artificial means. Hurricane Sandy and other recurring storms have been activating debates on ecology, discussing the role of artificial interventions in the cities of the north east, bringing issues that can be associated with New Orleans and the devastating force of Hurricane Katrina, studied in this computer seminar back in 2006.

During the academic year 2012/13 Princeton SoA will stage a series of public conversations around emerging alternative practices in architecture. At a moment when the profession is facing new challenges and asking important questions on a global scale, we would like to capitalize on the experience of our recent alumni to explore a broad range of contemporary practices that spin from, or gravitate around architecture, seeking alternatives to the established norms of the field. To capitalize on Princeton's commitment to experimental work at the edge of the discipline, we intend to feature these practices as a sample of ways to engage with various areas of interest and opportunity that confront architects today, and outline propositions for alternative practices for the future. A video of the lecture will be posted soon http://soa.princeton.edu/news.html
